Australian photographer Derek Swalwell is a triple threat; a creative who can capture the unique character of a person, a place or a space and make it look easy. We’ve seen his talent plenty of times before, from his comprehensive architectural photography for spaces like the Point Lonsdale Home, Northcote House and last years most-read est feature, The Black House – just to name a few!

Alongside his architecture and design portfolio Derek has been turning his attention further afield, embracing his fascination with Los Angeles and Las Vegas with his upcoming exhibition ‘WEST’, opening this week at JCP Studios in Melbourne.

The show will explore Derek’s perspective of these iconic spaces, featuring pictures of LA, Vegas and the Sonoran Desert, with dated buildings, iconic palms, low rise cityscapes and that iconic sun-bleached colour palette to feast your eyes on. While these cities may seem worlds apart from Melbourne’s metropolitan style, Derek’s eye for detail and tone explore the faded beauty in every city corner.

‘WEST’ opens 27th April and runs until May 11.
