Want to bring the beach vibes home year-round? Consider creating a gallery wall that’s
We used all photography for this gallery wall, but we also love the idea of using a mix of photography and paintings that give off that nautical vibe. Are you good behind the camera? This is a perfect time to print out some of your favorite beach vacation snapshots and mix in your own work with pieces you’ve purchased.
For this gallery wall, we went beyond the beach and took a deep dive beneath the surface—of the ocean! We love taking the coastal theme and making it a little less literal. We used three coral-inspired pieces to anchor the look, then mixed in organic shapes and pops of color to keep it feeling a little more abstract.
There’s a lot of room to personalize this style. Just find your anchor pieces—whether it’s coral, seashells, ocean animals, or even underwater textures like scales or barnacles. Then play off of the shapes and color schemes in those pieces to round out your gallery wall.
Summer Garden Escape
Summer isn’t just about the beach. This gallery wall was inspired by a summer flower garden in full bloom. A palette of yellows and blues offers a lively contrast while bringing a light-hearted feeling to this look. You could also mix in pinks and greens for more depth of color.
We kept things more straightforward with prints of actual flowers and butterflies, but there’s room to be abstract here—get inspired by the colors and shapes found in a garden as a starting point for your summer garden gallery wall.
How to Make It Happen
Once you have your artwork selected, pick out the frames and layout. You can keep things eclectic and light-hearted with a mix of frame colors and styles. Or, if you prefer a more cohesive look, get frames in the same color and style and let the artwork do all the talking. For layout, you can go for an organic look (like what we did) or go for something more organized and linear, with a grid layout.
Ready to nail it down? Start a Modsy design project and see a summer gallery wall designed and laid out in your exact room in 3D. Or go the old-fashioned way and lay out a piece of craft or butcher paper on your floor, sized for the amount of wall space you’d like the gallery wall to take up. Then lay your framed artwork on the paper to find an arrangement you like. Once you have the layout figured out, use a pencil to trace the outlines of each frame.
This creates the perfect template, so you can make sure your frames end up exactly where you want them. Then, tape the paper on the wall where you’d like your gallery wall to hang, hammer nails where you’ve marked for them to go, then remove the paper from the wall. All you have to do is hang up the frames and your gallery wall is complete!
