I will be the first in line to say that I am a huuuuge fan of mixing – whether that be with color, print, textures, and now, we can add sewing patterns to my resume! No, this is certainly not the first time I have have mixed patterns but I haven’t done it in a while and wanted to remind you (and moi) that it’s always a fun option! I was able to mix two reliable patterns that I love to use and are familiar with the fit and make something new! This week, I choose to work with Burda Pattern 6848 (sleeve) and McCalls M7160 (dress).
The inspiration came from a sketch I drew last week,
I think it took more time to take and edit these photos than it did to make the dress. From cut to hem, it took less than 3 hours. I stop at lot when I sew, I like to admire the fabric and try it on a few times. Anyone else do that? I do it a LOT.
The fabric, I have been dying to use for a loooooong time! I found it over at Pacific Fabrics when I went to their Grand Opening in Bellevue, WA, if you are local got stop in for a visit!
The red and pink combo instantly had my heart, I have about 1 yard left – what should I make with it?
I love mixing stripes, prints, and colors and this fabric was the perfect set up. So if you want to recreate this dress, remember “sleeve B” from Burda Pattern 6848and “dress C”McCalls M7160. OH! Before I forget, change up the pattern around the bodice, everything chance you get. I even cut the back into 2 pieces (and added a center back seam) so that I could play more with the stripes.
