Seamlessly combining elements of the farm and the beach, this chic and relaxed weekender on the Victorian coastline now effortlessly meets the needs of its family’s downtime – all thanks to designer .
On a sublime plot of Flinders farmland by the beach, and with an in mind, interior designer spent just four months renovating this beautiful family weekender. Created for adventure and ‘conscious connection’ with family and friends based both in Melbourne and L.A, this family’s home away from home epitomises a calm, cosy and fresh change from the fast pace of their busy city lives.
Intrinsic to her aesthetic, Sally Caroline prides herself on being considered, refined, millimetre-perfect and entirely different; something Flinders Family Farm embodies beautifully. Simultaneously referencing both the Victorian seaside and the countryside, Sally explains, “We complemented both themes by setting white against farm style details such as reclaimed timber, tan leather, industrial hardware and grey limestone.”
The idea behind the weekender home was that the family’s children can spend long, lazy summers swimming in the salt water pool looking over their acreage, ride their horses or quad bikes through rolling hills and cultivate their own vegetables and herbs in the sprawling garden. There is also a free-standing artist studio out the back for the grandmother, who is an accomplished artist. The studio sits under the ‘honeymoon suite’, which is a self-contained guest house for friends and extended family.

As with every project, this home also had its own constraints. In this case, Sally Caroline rose to the challenge of transforming the home in just four short months in time for the holiday break. “This meant we had to work in harmony with the existing home – rather than start completely fresh. The existing house was quite dark, mostly brown and somewhat dim. We set out to create a fresher, more uplifting feel throughout whilst retaining the country luxe roots of the property.” Sally and her team transformed the kitchen, living and master suite entirely, as well as lining the ceilings throughout. Then they went about purchasing furniture, art and accessories to reflect the new fresh and calm mood while ensuring a practical element remained.
Throughout the holiday home, some of our favourite design elements include the suspended stone range hood, benchtops and splashback all in a creamy, grey-veined ‘Everest’ quartzite from . The kitchen also features an ‘H-stretcher’ table in American oak from encircled by tan leather and oak chairs from . To complete this open and bright communal space, Japanese inspired ceramic vessels displayed on the table by add an organic and ethereal touch. Other standout features include the Lariat 3 pendant from which creates a beautifully frosted focal point in the living room alongside a pair of and a by Paola Navone.
The clean, neutral palette of the home highlights the bold and colourful artwork throughout. We’re especially drawn to the ‘Double Curled Thought’ by Camie Lyons in the living room and the Christine Willcocks ‘A Vulnerable Surface’ that overlooks the kitchen area.
Timeless and refined, this is a weekender that effortlessly stands up to its family’s lifestyle. Sally Caroline has delivered a home where country-meets-coastal and where one big family can join together to do what they do best – be uplifted and rejuvenated, much like the house itself.
