This stunning apartment design by ,combines bohemian loft living with family friendliness. The space’s (mostly) open floor plan,large windows that extended all the way to the floor, and exposed interior brick already gave this apartment an indelible rustic charm. From a design perspective then, all that was left to do was to proceed rationally, and carefully choose fixtures and furniture that would complement the existing structures. This was
definitely one interior design job where the too often repeated maxim ‘less-is more’ really did apply, and the goal was to not get-in-the-way of the natural charisma of this living space.
Thus, there are no unnecessary elements in this interior design scheme. What’s more, there was also a definite opportunity to use some inexpensive (and even free!) items for the furniture. For instance, the unfinished white granite and rough steel dining table is as simple as simple in terms of its materials and geometry. It’s flanked by a set of mismatched chairs, save for an identical pair of metal chairs with chipped avocado green paint that were undoubtedly destined for the scrap yard and later the smelters if they had not been rescued and re-purposed for this project. The walls are also left bare save for a solitary antique rail car hub cap on the right side of the glass panel fresh doors that lead into the kitchen area.
One of the more inventive design aspects here is a huge section of wall space that is covered from hardwood floor to ceiling with chalkboard. As such, this loft apartment is perfect for creative types and entrepreneurs who need to be able to visualize and flowchart their ideas. It’s also great for kids (and the perennially young at heart)—now they have an excuse to draw on the wall and they won’t get themselves into any trouble for doing so!
