Earlier this week I shared my interpretation of Kinship, one of the four themes that make up the Dulux Colour Trends 2018 Balance. An exciting project to be a part of as an interior stylist, the Dulux annual colour trends provide inspiration for shoots throughout the coming year. When it comes to styling at home, I look to the trends for creating livable colour schemes that can in turn inspire others. The warm and inviting tones of earthy greens, burnished reds, terracotta and caramel that make up the Kinship Trend have been creeping into my day to day styling for a while, so incorporating them a more expansive way has been a lot of fun. Seeing the highly anticipated release of the Trends imagery for the first time is always an exciting moment, as these are what bring the concepts to life. Dulux Colour Trends Creative Director Bree Leech collaborates closely with Dulux Colour Communications Manager Andrea Lucena-Orr and Dulux Colour Expert Davina Harper to create each year’s predictions, in turn producing and styling the images, along with art directing the beautiful digital magazine. I’ve picked out some of my favourite Kinship images which showcase how the colours can be used in different areas of the home.

“Interior trends are continuously moving forward,” says Dulux Colour Expert, Davina Harper. “Changing one or more colours in your home will keep your interiors up-to-date. The key to making these new hues work in your home, she says, is to understand the look and feel you’re hoping to create.  “Establishing this will work well with our Most Loved Whites and Neutrals from the Dulux Colours of New Zealand range, so have some fun and experiment.”

Regarding Kinship, Davina says “Mixing subtle neutrals with bolder hues derived from nature, Kinship is an exciting and eclectic palette that will rejuvenate any interior.” She recommends having fun with the Kinship Trend by making a small space pop with Very Terracotta; or, for a moodier feel, consider a charcoal such as Ruski.

The beautiful video below introduces Balance, with a look all four themes that make up the Dulux Colour Trends for 2018, including Essential, Escapade and Reflect. I’ll be sharing more from these throughout the coming year.
