Directions:
Cut a piece 3-1/8” long from the 3/4” dowel.
Cut a piece 6” long from the 1” dowel.
Cut a piece 3/4” long from the 1/4” dowel.
Draw a 1-3/4” circle on the maple board and mark the center of the circle.
Drill a 3/4” hole 3/8” deep in the center of the circle using the forstner bit.
Make a mark centered between the edge of the hole and the outside of the circle; make a mark on the opposite side of the hole in the same manner.
Use the 3/16” drill bit to drill holes at each of these locations.
Use the countersink bit to countersink the holes so that the head of the brass screw will sit just below the level of the wood.
Use a bandsaw or scroll saw to cut the circle out, cutting just outside of the line.
Use the disk sander or belt sander to sand to the line.
On the 1” dowel, make a mark 7/8” from the end in the center of the dowel and drill a 3/4” hole 3/8” deep.
Turn the dowel 90 degrees and make a mark 1/2” from the other end in the center of the dowel, drill a 1/4” hole 3/8” deep.
Put wood glue in the hole in the round and in the 3/4” hole in the 1” dowel.
Insert the 3/4” dowel into the holes, making sure that the countersunk holes are above and below perpendicular to the 1” dowel.
Use a clamp to clamp this together making sure that things stay square.
Once dry, put glue in the 1/4” hole and insert the 1/4” dowel.
Allow to dry and sand everything smooth.
Apply finish if desired.
Use drywall anchors (or attach to stud) at desired location. Use level to make sure holder is straight when anchoring into wall.
