diy wall mounted toothbrush holder

I’m all for saving counter space in my bathrooms especially since all my bathrooms are pretty small. Uncluttered bathroom counters help make your bathroom look and feel tidier.  So my rule is to have as little as possible.

While I like clear counter tops, I also want to be practical.  Which means things that are used daily need to be super easy to get to.  One of those things is toothbrushes of course.  I used to keep mine in a ceramic cup on the bathroom counter but then thought why not wall mount them? That would be one more thing off the counter.

I created this DIY wall mounted toothbrush holder which turned out better than I had hoped. It looks pretty cool and it makes my toothbrush very easy to get to, while reducing a bit of counter-top clutter. Here’s how to make it:

Materials:
7.5cm x 1.5cm (2.95″ x 0.6″) oak discs*
24mm (0.94″) small wooden rings
small hand saw
sand paper
wood glue
wood protector/sealer (ideally a food grade one like this oneDIY wall mounted toothbrush holder)
picture hanging strips (UK readers find it hereDIY wall mounted toothbrush holder and US readers hereDIY wall mounted toothbrush holder)

*I had my oak discs cut to size on ebay UK but if you’re in the US, there are loads available on etsy studio.

1. Start by cutting the wooden rings with your hand saw. My toothbrushes are pretty slim so I cut them in half. However check the thickness of your toothbrush – you may need to cut off a third only.
2. Very lightly sand down the edges of the wooden ring so that there’s no splinters or uneven bits.
3. Mark the centre of your oaks disc and glue the piece of wooden ring on with the wood glue. Wipe off excess glue and leave to dry.
4. Follow the instructions on your wood protector to seal the wood and protect it from moisture.
5. Attach the picture hanging strips as per the instructions and attach to your bathroom wall.

Note: You can screw these in to the wall but I used picture hanging strips as I put mine on a tiled wall and I really didn’t want to drill in to my tiles. Also if you screw them in, the screw will be visible which isn’t the look I wanted.  And finally, I’m not a fan of screwing things in to the wall if I can avoid it.

Here’s a video tutorial:

Easy peasy, right? And I love that because I haven’t used any screws, you can make this DIY wall mounted toothbrush holder even if you’re renting. No need for holes in the wall or worse, in your tiles.
