DIY Terrazzo Triangle Trinket Box on Maritza Lisa - you can use a simple triangle 2d shape to make a 3d trinket box with a 3d printer! #diy #tutorial #homedecor #silhouettealta #3dprinting #homedecor

Terrazzo will always be close to my heart. The floors in my childhood home were and still are terrazzo. The stunning modern ways terrazzo is being used today are makes me want to diy all the things with this pattern. When I saw that Creative Market is sharing these patterns as a freebie this week only, I had to make and share this DIY Terrazzo Triangle Trinket Box. I used my Silhouette Alta 3D printer to make the box from a regular 2D triangle and tattoo paper to transfer the pattern. Read on for the full tutorial!

DIY Terrazzo Triangle Trinket Box – Instructions:

If this is your first 3D project and you need additional help, I did a post on setting up your 3D Printer and making your first project.

  1. In Silhouette Studio, create a triangle. Save your design
  2. In the Silhouette 3D Software, open your triangle design
  3. A pop-up will appear: Import As
  4. Select Jewelry Box
  5. The top and bottom of the box design will appear in 3d. You will print one shape at a time
  6. Select the 3D Print Tab on the right
  7. Select the Quality (I used the Standard option). Make sure one of the shapes is selected
  8. Press Print. The machine will heat up and print – you will see the countdown of time as well
  9. Once the first design is printed, let it cool then remove the platform from the printer
  10. Use the spatula to gently remove the 3D trinket box and any extra filament
  11. Load the platform back into the printer and repeat the print process for the other part
  12. Once both pieces of your triangle trinket box are printed and cooled off, it’s time to apply the tattoo
  13. Open your terrazzo .png pattern in Silhouette Studio
  14. Replicate the pattern throughout the print area
  15. Send to print on tattoo paper
  16. Follow the directions on your tattoo package, and apply the clear adhesive sheet that came with your tattoo paper. Use your scraper to smooth the bubbles out
  17. Use your box as a guide to draw 2 triangles on the back of the tattoo paper. You may need to cut a bit more to fit the lid and inside of the box
  18. Remove the clear adhesive paper for each one, and apply the tattoo face down to the top of the box and inside the box
  19. Optional: After the tattoos have been applied, you can apply a sealant to protect the pattern
