Getting all snuggled up in bed with a good book is one of life’s amazing little pleasures, right? And come the cooler autumn weather, this pleasure gets even more appealing.
This got me thinking about creating a calming, inviting and cozy bedroom environment in time for autumn. After all a bedroom should be a place which promotes sleep but also allows you to relax and unwind. And one of the best ways to relax for me is a comfy bed, a good book and some mood lighting.
I’ve got the bed and I can get the book but I was missing nice lights. I’d been on the look out for some bedside lamps but found the choice out there a little boring. Then I thought about hanging bedside lamps – they look great, they don’t take up space on your bedside table and they give light directly where you need it, rather then lighting up the whole room.
When we couldn’t find exactly what we wanted we decided to hack it and make our own using Ikea coasters! Yup – the hook that the light hangs from is made using Ikea cork coasters. These ikea coaster hacked diy hanging bedside lamps are easy to make and you don’t need many materials at all. We hung our lights pretty high up as we have very high ceilings. But you can of course adjust the height according to your room and your likes. You will find all the details of exactly what we did and materials we used in the downloadable free tutorial.
Overall, I’m really pleased with how simple these lights look and also with all the extra space on my bedside table for books. I especially love the soft glow these lights give off – more than enough to light up your book but not harsh in any way. And the fact that they include an ikea hack, makes them even more fun!
