DIY Foaming Hand Soap @themerrythoughtIn my quest for trying to use better for us products around the house, along with my love for making my own beauty products, I decided to give hand soap a try! I actually wanted to come up with a recipe for regular liquid soap, rather than foaming soap (because I had regular soap dispensers I liked and I didn’t like the foaming soap dispensers I saw at the store – ha!), but it seems like most of the regular liquid soap recipes have some sort of issue (like being too liquid-y). But after finding some cute foaming soap dispensers while I was looking for things online, I thought I’d give foaming hand soap a try (I know all that is very superficial, but I always appreciate nice packaging, and think all the little details add up to making a space feel and look nice, so it’s just a little thing I spend time on/think about). I’m also sharing some of the cute bottles I found in our Amazon shop, so if you’re into that, you can see them here.DIY Foaming Hand Soap @themerrythoughtDIY Foaming Hand Soap @themerrythoughtThis soap is SO easy to make, with just four ingredients needed for it – water, castile soap, liquid oil and essential oils, it can be made in just a few minutes. You can pretty much use whatever essential oils you’d like as far as scent goes (for brand, I am a distributor for Young Living, and you can read more about that here), or you don’t even have to add them in – but I love how they make the soap smell, as well as the extra benefits for helping support healthier skin. If you’re wondering about what essential oils to use for skin support, here’s a few to try: Lavender, Frankincense, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Clary Sage, German Chamomile, Geranium…really there’s lots you can use! Thieves or Tea Tree would also be good for immune support. I used Lavender and Patchouli for this batch. I also just started an Instagram account where I’m sharing lots more oily stuff and things related to living a healthier lifestyle – you can find me here: @essentiallylivewell.DIY Foaming Hand Soap @themerrythoughtSome of you have asked questions about oils and getting started with them and for those of you that have been wanting to jump in, right now if you order your starter kit through me (which includes a diffuser + 11 oils + wholesale pricing/membership + other goodies), I’ll send you a bottle of Orange essential oil (one of my favs – it’s great for teeth whitening and it’s the perfect pick me up for the gloomy fall/winter days – it smells amazing!) and you’ll get $10 off (from me, not through the site). So now is the time, so you can score this great deal and get a free oil! It’s only good through November 15th, so don’t wait! 8 ounces distilled water
2 tablespoons castile soap (I used Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Liquid Soap – I found it cheapest at Marshalls, but it’s also available at Target & Amazon)
2 teaspoons fractionated coconut oil (or any kind of liquid oil – olive oil, jojoba oil, etc.)
10 drops essential oil
foaming soap dispenser (I have this one)

Add the water to your soap dispenser (you’ll want to add this first or you could end up with lots o’ suds). Add in castile soap, coconut oil and essential oils. Gently swirl/shake the bottle to mix.

*depending on the size of your bottle, you may need to use less of the ingredients, you just want to make sure there’s a little bit of space between the inside pump mechanism and your liquid.
