The previous week felt like a design marathon here in Oslo. Launches of new products, Oslo Design Fair and the celebration of Norwegian design when Bo Bedre hosted their tenth design award show. Also Jotun released their new color card and the inspiring tendency exhibit at ODF who got a lot of well deserved attention you can see here. One of the new products launched at the fair is Vår table above from Tonning & Stryn designed by Andreas Engesvik. Notice the detail with the drawers not being the same size, would make the perfect storage for drawings when working on design projects. Below is the new wall paper from Biri Tapet designed by Anderssen & Voll, also showed at ODF. The handmade wall paper of straw was designed for Biri Tapets anniversary and has a herringbone pattern. All natural and sustainable.

Ariake is a collaboration between two Japanese manufacturors and Scandinavian designers, first shown in Scandinavia during Design Week in Stockholm (the amazing apartment who was all over Instagram) and now in Oslo. Read more here.

Ikea showed their collaboration with Snøhetta (below) called Stua, living room in English. They’ve created a round building separated from the rest of the home to inspire us to decorate our living rooms after how we live our lives. They want us to make conscious choices and create rooms free from trends and unwritten rules. Ikea is making room for life in the living room. (Technical drawings of the Stua collaboration between Snøhetta and Ikea will be available upon request if you want to build your own.)

Photography Helene Bye, Bo Bedre showing architect David Thulstrup with designer of the year Sigve Knutson and Bo Bedre editor Cecilie Molvær Jørgensen.

Bo Bedre hosted their Design Award for the tenth time and Cecilie Molvær Jørgensen, editor in chief, announced Sigve Knutson as Designer of the Year (above). 27-year old Sigve Knutson has a new and original expression, his practice is motivated by a fascination for the intuitive and playful rather than the smoothened and planned. Most known product is the bottle opener Bokk for Nedre Foss.

Some of the nominated products for the Design Award above, from left Spisolini Chair by Andreas Engesvik for Fogia, Gear Floor Lamp/Northern and Oak Chair/Northern. All products to be seen at the exhibition called New Norwegian Design at The Thief, open from September 6th – November 2.nd.

Last up, most refreshing in a long time – Designpodkast by my good friend Per Olav Sølvberg. In the first episode he’s visiting Swedish AD Therese Sennerholt in her home. Their conversation is fun, inspiring and very much worth listening to. Looking forward to the following episodes where Per Olav is traveling to both Stockholm, Copenhagen, London and Oslo interviewing Lotta Agaton, Tina Hellberg, Chris Tonnesen, Line Borella, Nina Brun and more. First episode here, enjoy!
