As the 5th Melbourne event wraps up it’s time to take stock as we share our exhibition highlights, favourite products and winning stands through the design lens of founder and director of ; Cassie James-Herrick.
Not to be missed on the Australian design calendar, was a celebration of style, creativity and innovation through design. In what was another jam-packed three days held at Melbourne’s Convention Centre over the 20th-22nd June, our team witnessed a showcase of progressive, thought-provoking and showstopping design.

Makiko Ryujin
“Stunning objects, with incredible tactility and beauty”, explained Cassie of exquisitely raw and earthy Shinki sculptural vessels. As a talented wood turner and photographer, Makiko’s vessels caught our attention with their rich symbolism and cultural reference from her Japanese heritage.

NAU
As a contemporary Australian design brand by , NAU is known for highlighting furniture, lighting and accessories by a collective of Australia’s boundary-pushing and spirited designers, given this, their stand was nothing short of innovative. As well as releasing their new and zone for guests to visualise new collections, NAU also presented new designs; including the Chameleon Table by Adam Goodrum.
Named after its ability to cleverly adapt to its environment, Chameleon is an agile table that takes commercial configuration to new levels. Its range of features are a product of extensive engineering, offering limitless dimensional, typological and aesthetic table solutions with a singular design language. Seamless, the Chameleon is refined in its engineering, functional in design and versatile in form, ready to adapt to the dynamic world for which it was designed.

King Living
This year, joined forces with two of Australia’s most promising furniture designers; Tom Fereday and Charles Wilson. Unveiling the Luna Armchair (by Charles Wilson) and elegant ETO table range (by Tom Fereday) King Living’s CEO, Anna Carrabs explains “We are incredibly proud to be launching these two ingenious collaborations at Denfair. King Living constantly strives to produce innovative, design lead products in conjunction with pioneering Australian talent such as Charles and Tom.”
Also designed by Tom Fereday, was the King Living stand at Denfair itself- the largest display King has presented to date. Providing a sanctuary for calm through the use of raised platforms, the stand created a feeling of immersiveness and independence from the rest of the fair. Each of the four themes represented invited guests into an intimate homely, space. “My favourite feature of the stand is that it can be viewed from the outside through a series of vignettes, or from inside by walking through and directly interacting with the products,” says Fereday.

Halcyon Lake
An absolute stand out for both Cassie and our entire est team was latest ‘Amadi Collection’ which was uncovered at DENFAIR this year. Consisting of richly textured hand-knotted rugs, inspired by an exploration of traditional African culture, each rug is hand-woven in the highlands of Afghanistan.
Made up from over twenty made-to-order designs, each rug is constructed using complex visual compositions which highlight the quality and skill of traditional weaving techniques and the depth of history instilled into each piece. The collection is richly evocative of central Africa and crafted by hand using lustrous wool, we also loved the colour palette of earthy and indigo tones which reflect the collection’s African design narrative.

Cosh Living
Always a DENFAIR highlight for the est team, the stand didn’t disappoint. This year saw Cosh Living showcase their growing collection of local and global brands including the exciting to our Australian shores, which is now exclusively available through Cosh Living. Est was also honoured to moderate an insightful Q&A session on the stand during DENFAIR. This included an international lineup of creatives behind each of the influential brands, including furniture designer Monica Armani who’s sculptural, concrete-clad was a real highlight.
