Since 1932, Danner has been producing affordable, hand-made work boots. Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, Danner also produces hunting boots, military-grade combat boots, hiking boots, and footwear for law enforcement officials.
But it’s the work boots that Danner produces for American blue collar workers that has made Danner a household name in shops and on construction sites around the country.
Danner got its start during the Great Depression in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, an old logging town that sits on the shores of the mighty Mississippi River. Danner’s original 12 employees built Danner’s first leather work boots by hand, selling them to lumberjacks for $4 a pair.
Four years later, in 1936, Charles Danner, the company’s founder, moved his family and his company to Portland, where the company is still located today.
What sets Danner apart from other boot companies is the brand’s long-standing commitment to producing American-made boots constructed from top-shelf leather and rubber.
The company’s products are so well-respected that various divisions of the U.S. Armed Forces have worn Danner boots in combat since 1982.
These days, Danner’s heritage-inspired hiking boots and ultra-sturdy work boots have become a style staple for trendy people living throughout Asia, North America, and Europe.
My top 3 personal favorite Danner boots:
Danner Mountain Pass Mink Oil
The Danner Mountain Pass offers out-of-the-box comfort that is uncommon in a hiking boot. This lightweight boot features an integrated shank, midsole, and lasting board. At only 46 oz. a pair, they are perfect for hiking through thick brush or long work days.
Thanks to its removable OrthoLite footbed, long treks are a cakewalk. Combine this with a thin Vibram Kletterlift outsole and you get a full range of motion with every step. Although these boots are not waterproof, they feature a Dri-lex liner that does an excellent job of keeping your feet dry.
Danner merged style with function so you can sport these handsome boots to the local pub or in a warehouse. A suede tongue protector and red laces provide the perfect accents. When contrasted against the mink oil uppers, they give the boots a retro look. With a leather tongue and padded collar, you get a secure, comfortable fit.
Danner Quarry Brown Alloy Toe Wedge
If you are in the market for a tough work boot that requires no break-in time, this handcrafted boot is a construction worker’s favorite. The first Quarry boot was introduced over a decade ago and continues to stand the test of time. Built with premium parts from around the world, they provide all-day comfort from heel to toe.
Whether you’re standing on concrete or need a firm footing on slippery surfaces, the Quarry helps you get the job done. A cushiony, non-marking, slip and oil-resistant wedge outsole relieves pressure and grips all types of terrain. With a triple-stitch design and a 12 iron Vibram midsole, you can be sure these boots will last.
They offer a snug fit on the heel and have a wide alloy toe box to give the toes ample wiggle room. The Gore-Tex simultaneously prevents water from seeping through while providing a path for sweat to escape.
Danner paired rough-out leather and rugged Denier nylon to deliver a light, comfortable, durable boot. Made for the man who prefers snazzy, high-mileage footwear, these boots are sturdy and stylish. Beyond exterior looks, they feature a thick, padded midsole to keep a spring in your step. The breathable, moisture-fighting mesh liner keeps your feet cool in hot temperatures and a waterproof barrier provides superior protection in damp conditions.
Another key feature is the outsole’s pentagonal lug design, which provides stability whether you’re ascending, descending on standing on uneven terrain. The heels lock into place, giving you a better fit at the back end, while a spacious toe cap provides ample room for the metatarsals. Additionally, the boots feature a fabric garage to park loose laces and keep them from dragging.
Whether you are looking for casual boots to wear on the weekends or a work boot that performs well under pressure, the Danner Tanicus will swaddle your feet with maximum comfort.
