Last Thursday evening I had the pleasure of attending the Cult 20-Year Anniversary celebrations in Sydney. Held at the flagship Sydney Showroom, I was blown away by the beautiful space which has undergone a transformation as part of the anniversary initiatives that officially launch today. The same location where Cult was founded two decades ago, the showroom extension makes room for eight new brands including Karakter Copenhagen and Nanimarquina, along with Zanotta, Tecno, Vipp, Louis Poulsen, Montana and Design Letters. In addition, Cult launches the first stand-alone NAU Gallery to showcase its growing Australian collection. Housed in a 220sqm space in a neighbouring warehouse to the Cult Sydney showroom, both spaces are designed by DesignOffice and are now open to the public.

NAU is Cult’s own brand of Australian furniture and was launched in mid-2017. The beautiful gallery, pictured above and below, was designed to showcase the full NAU collection, from elegant lounge furniture to sculptural lighting, modular shelving, stools, tables and dining pieces. The NAU collection is reductive in form, honest in materiality and timeless in style, and is presented in solid natural timbers, rich aniline leathers and textured wool weaves. Styled with abstract landscape artwork by Brooke Holm, handwoven rugs, fresh greenery and ceramics from local artisans, the space is quintessentially Australian with a contemporary and fresh feel.

The beautifully renovated showroom is divided into dedicated branded areas with a lighting space to showcase the breadth of the Cult lighting collection. Over the last two decades, Cult has organically grown its collection of prominent design brands to represent a strong portfolio of 35+ brands across furniture, lighting and accessories, including its own Australian collection NAU.

“Having previously designed the signature steel staircases in our Melbourne showroom, this collaboration with DesignOffice is a natural evolution that pays homage to the growth and changing structure of the showroom over the years,” -Owner & Managing Director of Cult, Richard Munao.

Finally, Cult’s third initiative to mark this huge milestone is the launch of the Icons of Design book; a limited edition box set containing a 20-page look book and cards. Styled by Heather Nette King and photographed by Mike Baker, the book is a creative resource showcasing the timeless elegance and understated luxury of the core brands within the Cult collection, and is supported by colourful design icon graphics developed by Design by Toko.
