As promised in my previous blog post, I’m sharing more from the first house we visited in Copenhagen, as part of the Design Tour with Georg Jensen and Garde Hvalsøe. The home belongs to Thomas Schlosser Svendsen, owner of Copenhagen store Klassik. Scandinavia’s largest dealer of original vintage furniture, ceramics, lamps and art since 1991, I had just discovered this store a day or so earlier, and couldn’t stop raving about it. I had never seen such a huge collection of classic Danish vintage design under one roof, so when I found out we were visiting the owner’s house, I was beyond excited.

Stepping inside I was immediately struck by the scope of the collection. An avid collector of original Danish design, Thomas has created a breathtakingly beautiful home where the furniture, lighting and objects provide an alluring sense of history. The interior, which spans four floors, features a monochromatic colour palette with white walls and dark flooring. Aged timber beams provide a rustic warmth throughout, while the carefully curated pieces effortlessly lead the way for exploration, from floor to floor.

The first floor features a living area with stunning furniture by Poul Kjærholm, a show-stopping grand piano, intimate dining area and kitchen. One of two in the house, this kitchen provides the perfect place to mix drinks in preparation for the arrival of guests. The second floor reveals an open-plan living space grounded by a stunning, central kitchen. A beautiful hub, we all naturally congregated around the kitchen island to chat over a delicious afternoon tea. Nearby, the expansive modular sofa provides a welcome place to sit and relax while admiring the incredible surroundings.

I was in awe of the number of Louis Poulsen PH lamps, which feature throughout the home and the Hans J.Wegner’s Flag Halyard chair (pictured above) which I have long dreamt of owning. The Poul Kjærholm chairs and tables are also favourites. The living areas are pared back and intimate with a warm and elegant tactility. Textural rugs define the different areas, providing a cosy warmth, while low level coffee tables showcase interesting groupings of vintage objects, including beautiful sculptural ceramics, Georg Jensen pieces, candles and books.

A light filled office space is housed on the third level, along with beautiful guest rooms. I love the cane finish of the The Fritz Hansen Chaise lounge chair designed by Poul Kjærholm.

The entire top floor is dedicated to the master bedroom suite, complete with freestanding bath tub. A luxurious space where the incredible Papa Bear chair by Hans J. Wegner looks right at home, its darker, moodier palette creates a cosy retreat and interesting contrast from the rest of the house.
