In Quebec, a simple giant window provides expansive views towards a scenic terrain, an object envisioned by Atelier Pierre Thibault to serve the function of a holiday home in the rural area. Entitled La Maison Haute the establishment enjoys extraordinary views in a remote forest area near Lake Clair, on a plateau, surrounded by aged trees, a river, utter peace.

Two volumes are covered by a porch, both materialized with cedar, topped with a sloped roof, the ensemble covers no more than 215 square meters.

In the single-storey room one could enjoy a fireplace where in the three-storey volume one could find three floors containing living areas. The ample glazing and high ceiling are constructing a spacious, airy atmosphere.

A double height window wall offers extraordinary views in of the surroundings, inviting the outdoors in, the perfect background for a serene holiday retreat.

A narrow strip enables the light to flood the basement, white metal railing lines the opening, emphasizing the feeling.

A black wood burning stove becomes a visual point of interest, in all its height it appears, from top to ceiling, as a reference point.

The master bedroom resides over the living room below and it has visual control over it whilst allowing the inhabitant to enjoy expansive views toward the forest beyond.

“The master bedroom gives the impression of sleeping in a cozy cabin, lodged in the branches,” the architecture practice relates.

Between the glass wall and ceiling a gap remains to create that loft-like feeling, for privacy, a transparent wall can slide to the inhabitant`s advantage.  In the basement, two bedroom ideas and an additional bathroom can be found.
