Colorful Paper Quilled Florals Bursts From Delicate Line Drawings

Paper Quilling by Meloney Celliers

Paper quilling has been around for hundreds of years, but it has recently gone through a renaissance as artists rediscover its creative possibilities. If you aren’t familiar with the technique, it involves coiling and shaping narrow paper strips into 3D designs. (You’ll often find these on stationery, but some artists use it in sculptures.)

Paper crafter Meloney Celliers uses the approach in conjunction with drawing to create mixed media compositions that feature the colorful quilling and simple drawings. My favorite pieces should come as no surprise—the florals. I love how, especially in the wellies piece, how the paper blooms seemingly burst from lines.
