COCO-MAT Eco Residences Serifos inhabit a complex of miners’ houses, built in 1910. Conscious of the building’s heritage, George Zafiriou has respectfully reimagined the structure to maintain the traditional architecture, with contemporary sustainable practices. Zafiriou’s dedication to the authentic Cycladic tradition is a design choice that pairs impeccably with the modern principles of bioclimatic architecture — providing natural air-conditioning throughout. Naturally, the eco residences embrace the great outdoors, inviting guests to unplug, slow down and revive under the Mediterranean sun.
Each of the 13 apartments include a pristine ocean view, with a living and bedrooms split between two levels. In a subtle nods to colonial style, interior designers Ionna Founti and Zili Karahaliou have curated warm, well-lit and well-worn spaces, with an earthy palette. An eclectic array of handpicked decor from Serifos and Athens feature alongside customised furniture, made from materials, including chestnut, silk and coconut fibres. Taking the use of natural materials one step further are the renowned COCO-MAT sleep systems, keeping to the hotel’s “sleep on nature” appeal, for optimal relaxation. In this way you will be falling asleep to a soothing sea breeze and the sound of lapping waves.
As an exemplar of Greek hospitality, don’t look past COCO-MAT’s
If you’re lucky enough to visit the island of Serifos, you have been blessed with a number of beautiful beaches. Earning its spot on the list of Natural 2000 protected sites, the crystal clear waters of Vagia beach are just a ten minute walk away from the hotel. Nearby hiking paths are ready to explore, that may well lead you to one of the island’s secluded beaches. If you’re feeling adventurous,
Rustic design elements are harmonious with white-washed walls and polished stone flooring, fusing together nature, simplicity and style.
