homemade body wash with essential oils

homemade body wash with essential oils

I’ve been wanting to try and make my own beauty products for a while. I had a couple of attempts some time ago and lets just say, the result was more beasty than beauty!

Since then I’ve done loads of research and have finally made my first beauty product that is good enough to share with you all.  This homemade body wash is easy to make so if you’ve never made any beauty products but always wanted to, this is the one to start with.

For this homemade body wash with essential oils, I’ve gone with lavender and eucalyptus oils because I like the contrast of the floral with something stronger but you can choose whatever essential oils that appeal to you. You can go over the top floral or go for something citrusy or even a bit of spice.

Ingredients:
60ml baby castile soapClean up! Homemade body wash with essential oils (+ free labels)
60ml carrier oil (I used apricot kernel)*
2tbs clear honey
30-40 drops essential oils of your choice (I used 30 drops lavender and 10 drops eucalyptus)
A4 vinyl matte white stickersClean up! Homemade body wash with essential oils (+ free labels) (for the labels – download free template below)

*There are loads of carrier oils to choose from including coconut oil, jojoba oil, almond oil and more. I chose apricot kernel as I had some (from my previous attempts) and also because I wanted an oil that doesn’t feel oily on the skin.

Pour the castile soap, carrier oil and honey in to a bowl and mix. Add your essential oils and mix thoroughly until everything is combined. Pour in to a bottle and you’re done. The ingredients do separate a bit so shake the bottle before each use.

I make small amounts of body wash as I like to change the scents often since there are so many enticing essential oils out there. I’ve used sweet orange in the past and my next combo is going to include bergamot.  If you want to make more, just double the quantities of everything except the essential oils.

This homemade body wash with essential oils is fairly thin in consistency compared to shop bought ones. But it’s not so thin that it just slides off your hand.  And it lathers nicely and smells divine. There are ways to thicken it but I wanted to keep it to as few ingredients as possible and also as natural as possible.  Just remember to shake your bottle before each use as the ingredients can separate.

Don’t forget to download the free labels below. I’ve created two versions – one which says ‘Eucalyptus & Lavender’ and the other says ‘Essential Oil Blend’. So this way even if you use different essential oils, you can still use the labels.

What combination of essential oils will you make?
