The winners of the 2019 Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards are here and ready to knock your socks off. In their ninth year, Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards has not disappointed with their winning picks across the categories of residential, commercial and hospitality.

Crowning highly-acclaimed local David Flack of Flack Studio as their Interior Designer of the Year and Arent & Pyke the winners of Best Residential Interior, they’ve also put forward Dylan Farrell as Australia’s Emerging Design Star. Other big design names include the adventurous Amber Road who took out not one but two titles, Kennedy Nolan for their widely-praised Caroline House and emerging Sydney-based interior design practice Esoteriko.

Interior Designer of the Year: David Flack, Flack Studio

Melbourne-based David Flack and his namesake Flack Studio have always made one thing clear: they’re not afraid to be bold. David’s conceptual mission has certainly paid off too, joining the Hall of Fame for Belle Coco Republic Interior Designer of the Year. As the 2019 winner, David was congratulated for his ‘unique approach to visionary design’ and ‘contribution to Australia’s creative landscape’.

Emerging Design Star: Dylan Farrell, Dylan Farrell Design

Dylan Farrell of Sydney-based Dylan Farrell Designs took out this year’s Belle Coco Republic Emerging Design Star for ‘specialising in discrete and detailed boutique design’ and ‘bespoke fixtures and furniture’. Highlighting Dylan’s projects Bayside Modern and Sydney Contemporary Perch, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for this designer in the coming year.

Best Residential Interior: Under the Tree by Arent & Pyke

Arent & Pyke attracted the attention of judges with their Under the Tree project, awarded the overall Best Residential Interior Award. We first locked eyes on Under the Tree in our AIDA Residential Decoration Shortlist wrap, which impressed us with its heart and soul – and the fact it was designed around a Ficus Lyata tree. The 2019 Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards valued the textual variations and “earthy tones of the renovated weatherboard cottage” that pay ‘subtle homage to the family’s South African heritage’.

Best Work With Colour: Yasmine Ghoniem, Amber Road

We’ve said it before – doing things differently is what Amber Road do well. Their work always seems to have a real sense of individuality and excitement. So it was fitting director Yasmine Ghoniem be recognised for the Best Work with Colour, for ‘beautifully realised palettes throughout a range of hospitality and residential spaces’. Their Polychrome House is a prime example, which includes an electrically-coloured mural by Sonia from Lymesmith.

Best Residential Bathroom Design: Flack Studio

David Flack and his team at Flack Studio found themselves applauded a second time in the 2019 Belle Coco Republic Interior Design Awards for their bathroom design inside their Caulfield North Residence. Described as an ‘ultra-modern mix of class and crazy’, these bathrooms couldn’t better present Flack Studio’s ability to fuse colour and texture.

Best Residential Kitchen Design: Caroline House by Kennedy Nolan

Caroline House by Kennedy Nolan hasn’t stepped out of the spotlight since its reveal earlier this year. Already taking out a series of accolades, the Caroline House kitchen was awarded Best Residential Kitchen Design in 2019 for not only being a sculptural masterpiece, but a ‘gentle background to the open-planned living space’.

Best Commercial Interior: Shelter Double Bay by Esoteriko

Shelter Double Bay by Sydney-based interior design practice Esoteriko won the judges over for Best Commercial Interior – a dreamy gym in the Eastern Suburbs. This “light-filled sanctuary” has joined the movement on reinventing how we live well and design’s direct impact on holistic health.
