Brooklyn Brownstone Renovated into Dream Home

In Melissa Lee and husband Keye’s yearning for more space, they ultimately ventured into house-hunting. Primarily, their idea was to enjoy a relaxed vibe, have the ideal environment where they can grow as a family, and a place where Melissa can run her boutique event design studio, Bespoke Only. Soon as they stumbled into this gorgeous Brooklyn Brownstone, it wasn’t exactly love at first sight. However, they saw the potential in plenty of functional space and envisioned their dream home in it, which is exactly what it is today!

Starting from the entrance, the house makes a good first impression. You are welcomed by antique doors, found at the famed salvage yard at Clinton Hill in the same vibrant neighborhood the house is in. You’ll be stepping onto Moroccan cement tiles from California, in a foyer leading to the white stairway to the triplex main floor. The living room looks inviting with the huge, comfortable couch and an exquisitely made round wall mirror to match the round table. A towering mirror is alongside the large window where natural light graces the wooden oak flooring, which was sanded and bleached, and the entire room. Lots of storage space sits in the kitchen, in shelves made of reclaimed barn beams made to hold a lovely dinnerware collection, and a vast number of IKEA cabinets. An elegant chandelier from eBay is hung right above the concrete countertop and marble backsplash. The dining area is set beside one of two tall windows that makes the room bright and cozy. A floating wall bench complements the wooden dining set and creates a bistro vibe that encourages sharing during meals.

Even the bathroom is charming with the lamp’s soft light and chalky lime-wash laden on the walls, same as that of the stairway that gives this area of the home added texture. Glass separates the sink from the doorless walk-in shower that elicits an airier atmosphere within the limited space. The master bedroom offers generous space and a high, ornate ceiling that matches the mantel. It’s built with the same doorless shower area with floor tiles resembling hardwood to produce a seamless appearance. Melissa’s Bespoke Only headquarters makes a distinction with a saturated palette, vintage wood furniture such as the desk, library and file cabinet that takes you back in time.

Given the structure is over 100 years old, there were unforeseen issues here and there- roof leaks, electrical not up to code, and it was a renovation horror story in itself! Going through six months of renovation difficulties was well worth the wait with a beautiful home finished to perfection.
