Yarn provided for review & giveaway by Bijou Basin Ranch. Opinions are my own.
Yarn from Bijou Basin Ranch is a favorite around here. For this month’s review & giveaway, we’re taking a quick look at their Shangri-La yarn, a 50% yak / 50% silk beauty that’s one of those yarns you use for just the right special project. Specifically today, we’ve got a beautiful skein dyed as part of Bijou Basin Ranch’s indie dyer collaborations, this one by Colorful Eclectic. It’s called Quest, and it’s basically everything I could ever want in a yarn, color-wise. Primary colors, featuring a dominant red and interesting color-pooling. So good!
The Yarn: Bijou Basin Ranch’s Shangri-La
Colorway pictured: Quest (part of the Colorful Eclectic line)
Skein details: 400 yd / 2 oz (365m / 56g) skeins / 50% Tibetan Yak / 50% Mulberry Silk Knitting needles: US 1, 2.25 mm / 28 stitches & 34 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) Crochet hook: US 00 / 30 sc & 38 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) Cons: If you don’t like laceweight yarn, this one’s probably not for you. Pros: The combination of surprisingly lightweight yak fiber with silk gives you something particularly lush to knit with – a real treat! Pattern Ideas: Last year’s Read Along Knit Along featured The Scarf of Dreams, which has a lot of great lace action that would be fun to work in this yarn. Crocheters might enjoy holding this yarn double with some favorite stash scraps to make the Scrap Scallops Scarf.
