We start planting the vegetable garden

April and it is time to start the first plantings with spring vegetables in the vegetable garden to enjoy the harvest in the summer. We can plant directly with the seed, transplant the ready-made plants we made in the bed, or get ready-made plants from the nurseries and agricultural shops.

We plant our vegetables at the appropriate planting distances for better ventilation and more light. Sparse planting of vegetables contributes to better growth and fruiting, as well as reduced infestations by insects and diseases.

So we start our spring vegetable garden, with the cultivation of tomato, the cultivation of pepper, the cultivation of eggplant, the cultivation of cucumber, the cultivation of zucchini, the cultivation of strawberry, the cultivation of onion, the cultivation of melon, of watermelon, and the cultivation of okra.

Before planting vegetables it is important to prepare the soil using the appropriate soil improvement materials. So we incorporate in the soil organic matter in the form of compost, digested manure, and organic fertilizer to strengthen the soil with nutrients.

We prune trees and ornamental plants

After the winter frosts and the low temperatures of the night have passed, at the beginning of spring, we start the pruning of trees and bushes, choosing a sunny day without rain. At this time we prune the citrus trees and carry out the pruning of the orange, the pruning of the mandarin, and the pruning of the lemon after they have completed their fruiting.

We also prune ornamental shrubs after the end of their flowering or those that we did not manage to prune last months, such as rose, gardenia, azalea, hibiscus, hydrangea, and geranium.

Pruning residues, as well as unwanted grasses (weeds) that we remove from various parts of the garden, are not removed, as we can use them as suitable materials to create compost that will be gradually incorporated into the soil after the completion of composting.

We plant ornamental plants and flowers

The month of April is the right time to give color and beauty to our garden or our balcony. Ornamental shrubs can be transplanted directly into the soil or into larger pots such as roses, geraniums, hydrangeas, azaleas, camellias, and hibiscus.

Also, during this period, in April, we sow or transplant annual spring flower plants such as pansies, petunias, chains, and dogs to make our flower beds and planters more beautiful on our balcony.

And of course, we continue this month to plant spring bulbs for gladiolus, dahlias, amaryllis, and lilies that will give us an impressive and colorful flowering in the summer.

We plant and take care of the lawn

If we want to plant a new lawn or to cover the gaps of the old lawn, in April, we sow with the variety we have chosen. This season is the most suitable as we have excellent conditions of relative humidity and relatively high temperatures for the lawn seed to germinate.

Before sowing the new lawn, we incorporate peat, compost, and special slow-release lawn fertilizer in order to be more successful. Remember that until the lawn sprouts, watering is required at least twice a day.

Also, April is an important month for the care of the lawn that we have installed as we start mowing it and doing the first fertilizations to develop its vegetation.

We create new plants by multiplication

During the month of April, we can create new ornamental plants for our garden and for our pots in the easiest and most economical way. Specifically, we make new plants from herbaceous flower plants and ornamental shrubs such as roses, geraniums, and camellias, mainly using the method of propagating plants with cuttings.

Of course, for climbing plants such as jasmine, ryngosperm, foul, plumbago, begonia, and vines we can try other methods of propagation, much easier, such as cuttings and branches.
