ON ME // dress: McCall’s Pattern M6886, Swing Coat: Vintage, purse: Dune London, boots: Sam Edelman, Hair: Beachwaver, Lips: Riva La Diva Lips

Hey lovies, I’m coming at you this week in some rhinestone Alexander Wang inspired fun (say that three times fast, wowza)! With the new year and new (to me) hair, I thought this easy Alexander Wang Inspired Rhinestone Dress Tutorial would be a fun way to bring in the new year!

And hey, who doesn’t like to have fun with a little filter here and there to add to the mix! Party filter pink is my new favorite color (it’s not a real official filter, just something I created and played with by accident) that I have been playing with and it coincides with the motto I am focusing on this upcoming year – living every day of your life it’s a special occasion. I want to live it, dress it, love others like it, and I’m gonna use my thrifted crystal glasses with milk in them and even eat like it’s a party – bring on the Julia Child cookbooks and whatever fun exotic food blogs I can find.

I’m sure people will think I am nuts but life is short. There’s so much to be thankful for and I would love to explore more ways to express it then merely trying to “get through’ the day…

Enter this gorgeous Alexander Wang dress I saw on my most recent trip to New York last fall, SEE HERE. I saw it and could NOT get it out of my head. Some fear that rhinestones are a little too immature and I get it, but I promise: you will not regret this look. It’s just enough to get your diva on without looking like you are trying too hard. Think: instant bracelets.

With that said, let’s gets started….

Materials:

  • Rhinestones,
  • Ruler (I used a mini measuring tape and worked with the centimeters side),
  • Permanent glue like e6000 with a pointed tip,
  • A shift dress of your choice,
(I made mine using one of my favorite and super easy McCall Patterns: M6886. I use this dress often because it’s classic silhouette – YOU NEED this in your stash. I’ve used it HERE, HERE, and HERE.)

Directions:

  1. You will have to work with one side, of each sleeve, at a time by flattening your sleeve in half.
  2. Using a ruler as your guide, decide how far you want each rhinestone to be (I used 3 cm – look at me breaking away from the inches) and with glue, mark each spot for the width of the sleeve.
  3. Place a rhinestone on each glue dot and then start your next row. The mini tape measurer had the perfect width and I used that as a guide for placing my next row.
  4. So you will continue with the next few steps: measure, glue, add rhinestone, repeat, until your new embellishment reaches to the middle of your forearm.
  5. Let the first side dry overnight and then finish the other side of your sleeve the next day. When you complete both sides your sleeves, let the glue cure for additional 3 more day.

So easy right? YUP. This Alexander Wang inspired dress is so fun! You can save it for that special date night or party, or on the weekend when you step into church. You know I did last Sunday and to my mom who is reading this, you also know I have no shame and it was fabulous. ALSO, this would be a great addition to your favorite tunic or basic long sleeve tee. All of those options work! I think I even saw a sweater that Mr. Wang chose to bling up at the same Barney’s where I found the dress – so chic.

What would you bedazzle up and do you think sleeve cuffs are enough or the perfect amount of bling? With my earlier comment, are you hesitant about using rhinestones? Do you think it has an age limit or perfect for all young at heart? And why stop there, thought’s on new year resolutions – are we loving them, hating them or kinda using it as a guideline?

Whatever you decide to make with this Alexander Wang Inspired Rhinestone Dress Tutorial and or use it as an inspo piece, share it with me on Instagram, @RivaLaDiva and/or give me a shout out on Facebook at Riva La Diva. I would love to hear from you and celebrate with you on your newest creation! Thanks for stopping by and have a glamorous day!
