The Abyss Dining Table is a continuing thought process and experimentation by Christopher Duffy of Duffy London that began with the Abyss Coffee Tables. The Abyss series presents abstracted geological slices of sea and land and their varying topography. Rugged below and glassy smooth for the tabletops, they are as functional as any tables on the market, but that is where the comparison ends. The Abyss tables are statement pieces that are art, sculpture and science all wrapped up into one gorgeous design.
It took a year of experimentation with sculpted glass, Plexiglas and wood before the idea of the Abyss became a reality.
The black base on the lifts up the layers of topography that then hold the lit from within glass top. It is completely surreal and completely mesmerizing.
From Christopher Duffy: “I was looking into sheets of thick glass at my glass manufacturer’s factory, and noticed how the material darkened as they added more layers – the same way the sea does as it deepens. I wanted to use this effect to replicate a real piece of the earth’s sea bed. Like a mythical power had lifted a perfect rectangle straight from the earth’s crust to use as his personal ornament.”
Each Abyss Dining Table is hand made to order using sustainable materials of high-grade FSC wood, glass and a light source.

Duffy London has also designed and created the , a set of 3 small tables that are as much stools as they are tables.
With their small size the Atlantis tables are easy to group together or pull apart and use separately.
The topographical layers of the 3 tables are book-matched.
The larger, single is able to showcase more underwater geology then the Atlantis tables.
The layers of glass and wood add a distinct geometric element to the otherwise organic shape.
