hi everyone, maia mcdonald from Bitte here, dropping in to share my new hometown, Sacramento. One of my favorite things about moving to a new city is being able to explore and uncover all the local gems. The places you can’t find anywhere else, the small shops, restaurants, artists and makers that make a place unique. Since moving to Sacramento a little over a year ago to start our new business Bitte I’ve been trying to do just that. Partly because it’s a good way to meet other people in the small business community, which is always nice when starting your own business. But also because I find it is the quickest way to really feel at home in a new place. The shops I’m sharing today are all part of an indoor market called WAL Public Market. Which is just a few blocks south of the capitol and downtown Sacramento. It’s an area that has seen a lot of revitalization over the last couple years and it’s one of my favorite areas to go when I’m looking for some local retail therapy or want a good meal. While in this post I’m focusing on the shopping, within two blocks of the market are an abundance of some of the best restaurants Sacramento has to offer. A few of my favorites are Shoki Ramen House, Metro Kitchen and Fox & Goose Public House.
If you’re in the market for the most beautiful, handmade, Moroccan rugs you have to come here! Owner, Ali hand picks every rug on his trips to Morocco and he has pretty flawless taste. If you can’t make it in person follow along on his instagram at @kechmaradesigns, it’s inspiration overload.
The perfect mix of vintage and new, Old Gold is that shop that you’re sure to find your new favorite outfit from. I particularly love their caftan and jewelry selection!
Medium Rare Records & Collectibles
I’m not a super big record geek so the coolness of this place is probably not even fully appreciated by me, but even I know this place is amazing! Peruse the awesome record collection, shop for vintage furniture and knick-knacks or just get inspiration from the old band posters lining the walls.
Handmade, small batch shoes, made from the finest materials. You have to stop by Benjamin’s just to ogle at the beautiful shoes and cool equipment since they make them right there in the shop.
