As a flow on-effect from the general busyness at this time of year, I find myself being drawn to calming interiors even more than usual. This project, located in the central Stockholm district of Östermalm, is providing all the right vibes. A penthouse apartment redevelopment designed and project managed by the company Planoform, in collaboration with Claes Dalén, the interior is restrained yet elegant in a simple palette of beige, white and wood.

Working closely with the owners, Claes chose to replace the apartment’s existing mixed flooring with an oak chevron pattern. Paired with warm white walls and ceilings, the space feels serene and light. The renovation included a rejig of the floor plan to free up space and create a better flow, with the creation of an open, social kitchen for ease of entertaining. The kitchen island, workbench and splashback is clad in a Tunisian limestone, injecting further warmth and texture. Claes designed the long dining table in a beautiful walnut finish and a custom-made cabinet in the same wood with textural rattan doors.

I love how the clean lines in the bedroom and ensuite are softened by rounded forms such as the sculptural wooden stools and freestanding circular bath. The velvet rug and sheer curtains tie in with the living room textiles, providing a beautiful sense of cohesion throughout.
