Sitting pretty by the seaside, this restored Polish holiday apartment by Loft Kolasinski presents a valuable lesson in restrained refurbishment. As seen in their previous holiday home transformations, the acclaimed design studio has stayed true to the building’s early existence by allowing the original features of this 1920s home to shine through.

Miedzyzdroje is a small coastal resort town in northwest Poland, often called ‘The Pearl of the Baltic’. Set between wide sandy beaches and the dense forests of Wolinski National Park, the area’s beauty and temperate climate have made it a tourist mecca for generations.

To house more keen guests over the holiday period, the original 1920s seaside villa was subdivided – with a stylish floor plan front of mind – resulting in four separate apartment style dwellings. Loft Kolasinski’s clever remodel has welcomed the region’s superb light to permeate throughout the apartment’s living areas. Not to mention the elegant balcony – accessed via the dining area – that takes full advantage of the breathtaking views and fresh air from the Baltic Sea.

The white walls are an important feature of this build. During the redesign, layers of plaster were carefully stripped from the walls, revealing stunning brickwork beneath. The exposed walls were then given a perfectly simple treatment – painted stark and white, bringing a strong textural element to play throughout the home.

The design team have brought a monochrome sophistication to the space by the use of black in fittings and features. Black benchtops, light fittings, wall mirrors and even rounded, vintage-style switches set a modern industrial vibe. This is tempered however, by occasional softer touches such as the delicate, pale curtains offering privacy to the home’s intimate spaces whilst still allowing natural light to permeate.

Not limited to the design, the overachieving team at Loft Kolasinski have also created the bulk of the home’s sleek wooden furniture, including the beds and bedside tables. Their clean lines and sophisticated shapes are all crafted from local Polish oak, further paying homage to the home’s surroundings and heritage. The team also procured supplementary, industrial style furniture from vintage sales and local auctions.

Known for their mastery of modern industrial interiors, Loft Kolasinski have once again demonstrated their skill and light touch when challenged with transporting a timeworn home into the 21st century.
