If the whole boxy wardrobe look doesn’t appeal to you, this kind of open wardrobe is for you. It’s simple, minimal and best of all it won’t take up nearly as much space in your bedroom but still gives you as much storage as a normal sized wardrobe.
With this open wardrobe diy you can hang your clothes in style and hide all your ‘smalls’ and clutter away in the ikea hacked cabinets below. The top of the cabinets are handy for keeping bits and pieces that you need access to all the time.
I’ve always lusted after the Scandi style minimal open wardrobes and so when we moved in to our current home (which we renovated from scratch), I decided now was my chance. Also, I’m not a fan of readymade wardrobes as many tend to look so modular.
So Richard and I decided to make our own. We came up with the design for the hanger and decided to use Ikea kitchen cabinets for the closed storage. Once we had planned it all, Richard set about making it.
We created identical rails for both of us and then had the drawer unit going across the length of the wall. A shared wardrobe isn’t an option in this house – c’mon people, do you know any woman who can share a wardrobe?!
Two added and unexpected bonuses of this kind of open wardrobe are that it made me get rid of clothes I never wear. We all have a ton of those, don’t we? And also, now I don’t leave a ton of clothes lying on chairs and stuff because it’s so easy to hang them up.
Most of all, I love how minimal and light this open wardrobe looks in our bedroom.
It takes a little effort to make this wardrobe, but once made it will be so worth it!
