The American Case Study Houses were a post World War II experiment in American residential architecture. Sponsored by Arts & Architecture magazine, it commissioned major architects of the day, including Richard Neutra, Raphael Soriano, Craig Ellwood, Charles and Ray Eames, Pierre Koenig and Eero Saarinen. Known for their airy volumes, slender steel frames and large glass sections that open up to lush gardens and pool areas, the houses provided the perfect inspiration for former professional hockey player Mattias Weinhandl and his wife Sara when they decided to build a home for their young family in Sweden.
The interior is defined by simple clean surfaces, Japanese influences and an elegant design language. Concrete surfaces are warmed up with wood accents, while generously sized spaces and the flow of natural light throughout the day create a tranquil feel.
The couple enlisted interior designer whose signature style can be seen throughout. Refined and elegant, the spaces incorporate several of her custom design solutions, built by . In addition, many of the furniture pieces are from Louise Liljencrantz and KFK’s joint furniture collection.
