This week we are talking with Veronika from kutovakika.

I LOVE HER FEED!!!!! It is fun, super creative and inspiring! Instagram- THE Instagram- reposted 4 of her photos, that is how good she is!

She did an IG live, few months ago, about how to get your post noticed by Instagram and it’s the only live I’ve ever managed to watch from start to finish! She is so inspiring and she is always so generous in sharing her tips! You can read her blog, which is packed with great articles about creativity, IG and knitting, here! Yes, originally her feed started with the intention to gain more visibility to her handmade products and then it evolved into a creative sanctuary.

By the way, following her creative tips, I did get a like from Instagram (YES, I did save a screenshot) and I’m hoping to get one of my photo reposted, one day! AHAHAH!

Hello Veronika!

When did your creative journey start?

I started to put serious effort into my Instagram account in June 2017. Back then I had under 1,000 followers and now 10 months later it’s grown to over 33,000 followers.

The reason I actually started being more active on Instagram was to gain more visibility for my knitwear shop that I had at the time. But now my focus has shifted and I’m devoting it completely to creative photography & lifestyle (although I do also still share photos of my knit projects, once a knit geek always a knit geek).

Can you pick three words that describe how you feel when you are being creative?

Excited, curious, and at times frustrated.

I guess what we all look for is that magical state of flow when we’re creating, in those instances I feel completely immersed in the thing I’m doing and like I’m in my own little bubble where time just stops.

Unfortunately the state I find myself much more often is one of many questions and mess in my head. But that’s all part of the process that I love, detangling and making sense of the mess is part of what keeps me interested in it.

As a creative where do you find your inspirations?

I’ve written this fancy line in my Instagram bio “inspiring to find the magic in the mundane”, which basically means I try to look at the ordinary things around me that I usually take for granted and see if I can draw out a little magic from them.

Since the thing I’m doing is visual storytelling I look for inspiration in images, but not only the ones I see on Instagram or Pinterest but also in visual art, books and movies.

I can get ridiculously excited by very simple things like a specific color, a texture or material and I try to let that curiosity and excitement guide me.

What’s the most valuable tip you would give to an aspiring person starting their own creative business/journey?

Don’t wait until you have it all figured out. Just start with something very simple and take it from there. Trust that your passion will resonate with others and commit to putting your best work out there.

Also, it’s ok to start out doing things that come naturally and feel comfortable and safe, you don’t have to learn all there is to know at once. I just read this quote the other day that I think sums it up pretty nicely “Trust the timing of your life”.

If you were not a photographer or a knitter, what would you love to be instead?

Well my background is actually as a contemporary dancer and choreographer, and up until a few years back that was all my days were filled with. Photography is something still quite new to me but a passion that has completely swept me away.

Could you share three IG accounts that inspire you?

I love the creativity and organic tones of @herinternest, Barbora who has the account is such a lovely person and I feel really happy to call her one of my IG friends.

I often go to @nandaschwarz for style inspiration and when I want to see what the cool kids are up to haha.

Finally I have to mention the Instagram queen Sara Tasker @me_and_orla, her account was one of the first that I really fell in love with and inspired me to start putting in serious effort in to mine, I would never have learned so much about IG without all her tips!
