If you’ve read Brown Paper Bag for any length of time, you probably know that I love . In particular, I love what you can learn about yourself and your artistic practice by having to create something every single day, whether that’s for a month, 100 days, and beyond. (I’m working on my own daily art project, 1 Year of Stitches.)
Fiber artist has been diligently working on her project, the since early April. The guidelines are open-ended; each day, she must stitch something that’s just for the wall hanging. “At first I thought about doing 100 coils,” , “but then I was afraid of only having tiny coils so I adjusted.”
Now over two months in, the piece is has grown—it’s now too big for Amy to comfortably hold—and showcases a beautiful collection of colorful spirals. It’s allowed her to push the boundaries of her work. “This piece looks nothing like any of the other wall hangings I’ve made so far,” , “and I love it! It is so different for me to work like this. I’m just adding whatever I feel like wherever I feel like with no end goal in sight.”
But with the project end nearing (albeit still a ways away), Amy has shifted her focus to cohesion. “Now I am coming back around,” , “to make sure I feel like the piece is cohesive and ends up making sense in the end.”
