7 New Product Launches that Stood Out This Week

Even more new products are being launched this month; press releases keep on coming, flooding my inbox! Lots of chairs and “old” products revisited. Here are seven of them that stood out from the lot:

Fritz Hansen is Relaunching The Pot Chair by Arne Jacobsen

The Pot was first launched by Fritz Hansen in 1960 together with the iconic Egg™, Swan™ and Drop™ chair, all designed by Arne Jacobsen for the SAS Royal hotel. For some reason the Pot never got the same recognition as the rest of the collection and soon it was taken out of production. That is, until now. With improved comfort, modern materials and available in new playful fabrics, the Pot (shown above and below) returns in better shape than ever.

Skagerak Adds New Designs to its Turn Collection

The Danish design company Skagerak has added three new designs to its Turn collection by designer Line Depping: A new coat stand, hooks and hangers. The new coat stand is made from a beautiful mix of steam bended ash and small brackets in golden aluminum. The hangers and hooks are likewise made from aluminum, altogether creating a modern contrast to the light ash wood.

The Tatlin Vase Re-emerges, Thanks to Skultuna

Ivar Ålenius Björk (1905 – 1978) worked as a sculptor, mostly known for bust portraits. His public ornaments can be seen in many Swedish towns. He also designed a series of products for a no longer active Swedish company called Ystad-Metall. Ystad-Metall produced a large number of classic design items in the 1920s – 1960s. The Lily candlestick was one of these products and it has become a design classic that features in many international design magazines to this day. The Tatlin vase is another of these iconic products from Ivars hand. Skultuna has now agreed with the relatives of Ivar Ålenius Björk in order to take up the production of the vase again.

Palais Series for Asplund

The prominent Swedish design house Asplund is introducing the Palais series by Anya Sebton and Eva Lilja Löwenhielm. “We have chosen to play with the elegance and luxury from past tense with a semi-circular profile that creates a beautiful relief together with a pure Scandinavian expression” sais Anya Sebton. The Palais series contains of Petit Palais side table, Grand Palais dining table and the two lounge tables Palais Royal and Palais Ovale. They are made of lacquered oak panels and a beautiful oak veneered top.

The France Chair Now in Walnut

Designed in 1956 by Finn Juhl, the France chair, or FJ136, has been a popular classic. The chair has, until now, been available in oak, smoked oak, beech and black painted, and it was just launched in a beautiful walnut version. Read more about this iconic piece here.

Norman Foster Designs Minimal Tea Set for Stelton

Stelton collaborated with British architect Norman Foster for its latest assortment. Foster used a combination of stainless steel, porcelain and glass for the tea set, which includes glasses, coffee cups, a sugar bowl, a thermos flask, a water jug and a tray – all with soft, sounded silhouettes.

Enclosed Chair by Norm Architects

Norm Architects have designed a chair called Enclose for Fogia – a wingback chair consisting of two shells resting on a wooden base, meeting each other the same way flowers and leaves do. “In the process of designing the chair, we looked to nature for inspiration, with a minimalist, functional approach, clean lines and carefully selected details. The shape of the chair has it enclose the body, so to speak, making it a comfortable, nest-like hideaway that its user can retreat to. The division between the seat and back create a sensation of both opening up and drawing you in – like a funnel – and in that sense it welcomes the user into its universe. ”
