5 Ways to Wear Shorts This Summer and Still Feel Like a Grown-Up

As someone who generally prefers trousers over dresses and tailoring over loose silhouettes, you’d think that shorts would be a given when it comes to building my summer capsule. However, for some reason, I find them unbelievably hard to style.

Perhaps its something to do with their school sports days connotations or the way they can so easily cut your legs off at an awkward point, but they just seem to stump me. However, it seems as though shorts are making a storming return this season in all shapes and sizes (from cycling shorts to belted iterations), so I have had to face my fears and tackle the issue head-on.

Luckily, there’s plenty of inspiration on Instagram, and the likes of Alyssa Coscarelli and Enis have shown me that it is possible to wear this trend and still look like a pulled-together grown-up. If you’re struggling as much as I am with this summer-ready trend, I’ve rounded up five easy outfit ideas to inspire your shorts styling. From safari-style separates to tailored co-ords, scroll down to see and shop my favourite shorts outfits.

Style Notes: A pop of colour never goes amiss, and we love how Jessie Bush keeps her hot-pink pair looking timeless with a knotted white shirt.

Style Notes: Denim city shorts can be a scary prospect to most people, but Enis makes it look effortless with her dark grey pair, which she styles with a classic tuxedo blazer and a black tank top.

Style Notes: If in doubt, go tonal. Pernille channels safari chic with her white workwear jacket and a pair of cream shorts. We also like the addition of chunky sandals.

Style Notes: If the English weather isn’t playing ball, take inspiration from Shot From the Street and throw together belted shorts with a colour-matching crew-neck knit and brogues.

Style Notes: Shorts suits are the unexpected trend that the fashion crowd have fallen for this season. It’s super easy to put together and all it needs is a slogan tee and sneakers.
