Baby crochet is great fun! It’s a wonderful way to learn a new technique whilst making something delicious for a little one! Merion has found you five fabulous free patterns to enjoy!

1. Morning Dew by Paintbox Yarns

Morning Dew from Paintbox Yarns

Crocheting garments in miniature is wonderful – you don’t have a huge expense in yarn, and you can combine all kinds of gorgeous techniques to try in a small swatch before you use them in a bigger project. The Paintbox Yarns cardi above has a gentle scooped yoke neckline and some bobbles to add texture – great fun to crochet, and the pattern comes in sizes from newborn to 18 months.  It’s a gorgeous summer accessory in Paintbox Cotton DK, but you could just as easily make it up in your favourite wool or acrylic DK for the autumn and winter as a sweet layer!

2. Little Tam by MADuNaier

Tam-0-shantas are great shaped hats for babies – they’ve got a lovely wide rim and rib, and they are roomy enough to cope with hair, hair clips and ears! Use your favourite DK yarn for this beauty!

3. Viola the Rabbit in a Pretty Dress by Laura Tegg

Viola the Rabbit by Laura Tegg

Viola Rabbit is crocheted in DK yarn (use a cotton DK or your favourite wool or acrylic yarn), with a baby-safe embroidered face, and a sweet little dress to wear! You can customise the dress any way you like, make it stripey, add embroidery or even make a few dresses in different colours for a whole wardrobe of fun!

4. Loop Stitch Baby Blanket by HappyBerry Crochet

We love this gorgeous colour combination from HappyBerry Crochet! The loop stitch is great fun to learn, and it looks beautiful in this ombré from purples to peach! It’s worked up in Paintbox Yarns Simply DK – you’ll only need five balls for this blanket!

5. Princess Charlotte Booties by Olivia Kent
