1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life

With the help of their architect Roberto Sosa, Angela and George Hensler transformed their 1940’s Hawaiian beach cottage into a tranquil, contemporary beach pad for two. The Henslers took cues from the lush, tropical garden which surrounded their home and decided to paint the exterior of their cottage a custom shade of dark green. So that their home wound blend into its surrounding. The Henslers also fitted brand new mahogany sliding doors into their home, in order to open their home up to the warmth of Hawaii’s balmy sun. To make the most of Maui’s sunshine, the Henslers furnished their wide porch with teak style chairs and an outdoor sofa.

The latter of which is flanked with decorative pillows. The Henslers also insured that they’d be able to enjoy views of their property, from inside their property by creating a screened off porch which boasts a cozy window seat, where the Henslers can relax with a book or watch the world go by. In keeping with their color scheme, the porch also boasts dark green walls and natural wood flooring. The highlight of the Henslers’ Maui property however, has to be the lounge which features brand new light wood flooring and a lofty ceiling, which allows plenty of natural light to enter the lounge.

The lounge as well as the kitchen and bedrooms, features wood panel walls which have been painted a fresh shade of white. Which gives the Henslers 1940’s cottage a new lease of life. Whilst the Henslers’ cottage boasts a minimalist aesthetic and features a white linen sofa and white linen bed spreads, the cottage boasts plenty of charm due to the Henslers careful selection of decorations. If you step into the lounge you’ll notice four black canoe oars hanging on the wall and a wooden bowl filled with fragrant tropical flowers. Both of which remind you, that you’re in paradise.

Another highlight of the Henslers’ cottage is the thoroughly modern bathroom which boasts a white marble counter top, large mirrors and custom built storage, where the Henslers can store their towels. The bathroom, which wouldn’t look out of place in a boutique hotel also features a shower with steel casement windows and quirky geometric tiles. The latter of which are also used as flooring for the entire bathroom. So if you’d like to give your dated property a new lease on life it’s well worth taking a leaf out of the Henslers’ design book. Speaking of leaves, the Henslers property also boasts a couple of native Hawaiian plants which brings the Henslers’ tropical garden into their beautiful home. 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 2 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 3 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 4 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 5 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 6 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 7 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 8 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 9 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 10 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 11 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 12 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 13 1940's Beach Cottage Gets a New Lease of Life 14
