A few days ago I wrote in this post about how I use each Christmas as a dry run for the day I finally have a home with a big dining table. When the day finally arrives when I’ll be serving the turkey (and the nut roast) I am going to be so practiced the only thing I’ll have to worry about is or at least that’s how it goes in my head.
I’m not traditionally a hostess kind of person. I love entertaining and cooking for people but it’s not on a regular basis. In fact I find it hard to cook for myself every day. But making the Christmas day meal means going all out. It’s not just in the cooking, it’s creating an atmosphere, beautiful decorations and keeping everyone entertained. It’s in the small details and that’s what I can do.
This painted bottle, candle holder centrepiece takes no time at all and has a big impact. Pair with black candles to keep your centrepiece on theme, then surround them with evergreens for that cosy winter look.

Instructions
1. Clean and dry the bottle to prepare for painting.
2. Paint two – three coats of paint onto the outside surface leaving each layer to dry fully before the next.
3. Once the outside of the bottle is fully covered leaving no gaps leave to dry. Smooth out any rough patches with fine sandpaper.
4. Push the candles right into the bottle opening until they are firmly in place.
Place them in the center of your table and decorate before lighting. Keep your Dulux tester handy for any touch ups you might need to do.
