Flowers are great to have around the house. They smell nice and make any house look so much better with their vibrant colors and beautiful natural patterns that complement other interior design features. However, the annoying thing about flowers is that they only last a day or less before you have to get rid of them. But, you can follow the following tips to make flowers last longer in vase.

1. Keep Your Flower Vase Away From Direct Sunlight.
Sure, your flowers may look more vibrant and beautiful when hit by the morning sunlight next to your sitting room window, but if you leave them there for a few hours, the heat will dehydrate the flowers causing them to wilt and die. Keep your flower vase away from sunlight or any other sources of heat in your home.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar and Sugar
Combine 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons of sugar and half a cup of water into your flower vase then add the flowers. The flowers use the vinegar as an antibacterial agent and sugar as additional flower food. This helps keep your flowers looking fresh for at least 7 days.

3. Aspirin
Mixing one crushed aspirin into your flower vase water lowers the pH level of the vase water. This allows the water to travel through the flowers faster preventing wilting. Even after a week, your flowers will still look fresh.

4. Bleach
Adding 1/4 teaspoon of bleach into your flower vase keeps the water from getting cloudy and helps fight bacteria to keep your flowers fresh. This should keep your flowers fresh for at least 5 days.

5. Vodka and Sugar
Adding a few drops of vodka into the vase water helps to minimize the growth of bacteria in the water which keeps the flowers alive. Adding a tablespoon of sugar to the mix gives the flowers the food they need to remain strong for a few more days. For the best results, change the water every day and refresh the sugar and vodka every time.
6. Coins and Sugar
Add a copper coin and a teaspoon of sugar to your fresh flower vase. The copper acts as an acidifier preventing the growth of bacteria in the vase while the sugar acts as flower food. This should keep your flowers fresh for 7 days or more.

7. Flower Food
Add a packet of flower food to your flower vase to keep your blooms looking fresh for longer. The flower food provides the nutrients the flower would have been getting had it not been chopped down.

8. Fridge
Place your flower vase in the fridge every night (at least 8 hours per night) then bring them out in the morning to shine. The low temperature in the fridge slows down aging to the point that the flowers will still look fresh even after 10 days.
9. Hairspray
Just as it keeps your hair looking good, a spritz of hairspray on your flowers helps them stay fresh for a bit longer, usually about 5 days.

10. Soda
Adding 1/4 cup of soda into a vase of fresh flowers gives them the sugar they need to last long and smell sweeter as well. If you change the vase water and soda daily, your flowers should stay fresh for 7-10 days.

Using the above hacks will not only make your blooms last longer but also save you a lot of money in the long run since you won’t have to buy fresh flowers every two days.
